Many murder cases remain unsolved in the capital city. Now Charleston detectives are hopeful social networking will bring them one step closer to solving some of those cases.
"The worst victim in the world has a mother. And that mother deserves to know what happened to their loved one," said Sgt. Bobby Eggleton of the Charleston Detective Unit.
Investigators such as Eggleton are not letting the unsolved mysteries go ignored. The department has launched a Facebook site to alert people of open cases.
"Most of the victims we've come in contact with have used Facebook and these types of things," he said.
If you go to the Facebook page, "Charleston Police Cold Case Homicide Section," you will see some of the cases that are still in the works. Investigators are hopeful Facebook will help make the public feel comfortable with relaying tips. "We just look into them and follow them up. And a lot of times we don't even have to go back and find you," Eggleton said.
Many families are still left without answers as to who killed their loved one. Considering the time that people spend on Facebook, police are hopeful that they also can help them bring some murderers to justice.
"With these Facebook pages and all the social media, they don't have to go cold. Someone has to know something. Just reach out and tell us," Eggleton said.
