Five people were transported to the hospital following a two-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon near the John Amos Plant, an emergency dispatcher said.
The two-vehicle wreck occurred about 5 p.m. on Route 817, also known as Winfield Road. The condition of the people injured in the accident was unavailable. A spokeswoman at the Putnam County Sheriff's Department said the accident report had not been completed yet.
The dispatcher said two people were entrapped in their vehicles and had to be freed. A HealthNet helicopter responded to the scene.
While crews worked the accident, the highway was shut down in both directions.
A multiple-vehicle accident with injuries was reported Thursday afternoon near the John Amos Plant in Winfield, an emergency dispatcher said.
The accident occurred about 5 p.m. It was unclear how many people were injured in the wreck, but the dispatcher said a HealthNet helicopter was responding to the scene.
The John Amos Power Plant is located at 1530 Winfield Road.
