You don’t have to hibernate like a bear this winter.
The Winter Series Walks/Runs in Charleston offer an opportunity to get out and be active.
The second part of the series is scheduled Sunday, Jan. 6. With varying distances and walks and runs, the Winter Series has something for everyone. The 4,000-meter walk (2.4 miles) is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the 8,000-meter run (4.9 miles) is slated for 2 p.m.
All events start at 31st Street and Virginia Avenue, and registration is at Charleston Area Medical Center Memorial Hospital.
Sponsored by the Tallman Track Club and the city of Charleston, the Winter Series offers events in December, January and February to help keep you motivated.
The final Winter Series event is Sunday, Feb. 3, with a 1 p.m. 5,000-meter walk (3.1 miles) and 2 p.m. 10,000-meter run (6.2 miles).
Same day registration for each event is $20. The courses are flat, marked and there will be traffic control at major intersections.
Runners and walkers who finish all three events will receive a hooded sweatshirt. There are no age group awards in the walk, just the top three females and males. In the run, the top female and male will win awards. The run also has age group awards of at least three deep, but 25 percent will win awards in big age groups.
