The Kanawha Charleston Humane Association is holding an emergency Adopt-A-Thon in an effort to save as many dogs as they can after a distemper outbreak, and they're using social media to find the dogs their forever home.
All of the available dog's pictures are being posted on their Facebook page, and website, along with a description of the dog. You decide what dog would work best for you, and then you come to the shelter and pick them up. In an effort to keep the dogs healthy, the public isn't being allowed in the back to check out the dogs in person.
"You do the final adoption and everything is good to go and you take the dog, but you sign a waver that is has been exposed to distemper and you don't hold anybody liable for it," explains shelter director Donna Clark.
Special arrangements have been made for the animals to be released even though they may not be spayed or neutered, but they will have to be in the near future.
The Adopt-A-Thon will continue on Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Check out the dogs at www.wvanimalshelter.com or their Facebook page "Kanawha Charleston Humane Association."
