A Jackson County father and former candidate for sheriff is arrested Tuesday for allegedly going to an elementary school and making threats while referencing the recent tragedy in Connecticut.
Deputies arrested 67 year old Joe Tate . Deputies say he was angry over a custody battle involving his two children and went to Evans Elementary School around 8 o'clock Tuesday morning. It's there we're told he made threats,
But according to deputies, those threats started Monday night during a phone call with DHHR workers. Deputies say Tate said this to DHHR employees:
"If you take custody of my kids, I'll blow your head off....if you're in my house when i get home, I'll blow your head off."
"You know that school shooting that happened in Connecticut, that's what it is gonna be like."
"If you take my kids, it will be like that school shooting..I'll kill a bunch of people and myself."
At the school Tuesday morning at Evans Elementary Tate allegedly said this to the school secretary:
"If you wonder why people shoot people like they just did, it's because of things like this."
Tate is charged with three counts of terroristic threats. Deputies say Tate did not have any weapons.
