Cabell County students are one step closer to going to school all year round. It's called balanced calendar and would include four 45 day quarters.
Students would be in class nine weeks, then off three weeks throughout the school year. Summer break would include 5 1/2 weeks off.
"It's beneficial to students because they'd see better test scores and attendance," said Jeff Smith, director of assessment and curriculum. "The balanced calendar can even help with discipline."
The Cabell County Board of Education is just discussing the new calendar. A decision will not be made until next year after a series of community meetings. The new calendar wouldn't go into effect until 2014.
