Law enforcement cracked down on non-compliant sex offenders in a two-day, multi-county blitz that resulted in several arrests.
Nearly 500 sex offenders were targeted in the "Operation River Cities" effort. Several law enforcement agencies from West Virginia and Kentucky honed in on registered sex offenders to see if they were in compliance.
On Monday, U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin and other members of law enforcement held a news conference in Huntington to discuss their results. There was a total of 25 arrests in both states.
"They were arrested and there were a number of other crimes uncovered as a result as well. Whenever you conduct an operation of this size, you're going to shake some bushes and we saw a number of other crimes as a result, too," Goodwin said.
Local police departments, county sheriff's offices and State Police collaborated on the blitz.
