Here at home, communities are finding ways of their own to honor the victims of the Sandy Hook school shooting, and come together to grieve.
A small group of people from in and around Flatwoods in Braxton County said they just wanted to be able to come together and pray.
More than 500 miles away from Newtown, Connecticut, and the pain in the eyes of these parents, grandparents, and children is the same pain so many are feeling.
"As a mother, it really has affected me, I can't imagine something like that happening to my son. It has devastated everyone in this community," explained Kendal Jones.
They know the hurt didn't stop at Sandy Hook school, or in Newtown, and it certainly didn't stop at the Connecticut state line.
"We're grieving with them, and we're hurting for them and we want to show our support here in West Virginia that they're not alone," Jones said.
One by one, they read aloud the names of those who lost their lives. They prayed for strength, and asked God to send an army of angels to comfort those who are grieving, to overcome fear, and to help children across the country not be afraid to go back to school.
"Even though they might not know it, might not see it, we know our prayers are going up and know that they're going to be answered and that support will get to them," said Sandy Westfall.
If you didn't get a chance to make it to that vigil, there will be another one on Thursday. It will take place at the Trinity United Methodist Church at 7:00 p.m.
