"I looked over and the Silver Bridge was gone. I was like 'Oh my God,'" said Jim Naegal as he reflected on his first sights of the bridge collapse.
Forty-five years ago, the Silver Bridge in Point Pleasant collapsed killing forty six people.
And on Saturday all those who were lost were remembered.
Those in attendance were still trying to wrap their heads around the 1967 tragedy.
"I really didn't think something like that could happen," said Russell Holland, who was on Point Pleasant's City Council when it all happened.
And for Rev. Roger Bonecutter, the way the community rallied around each other was unexpected.
"It was unreal to watch the people, how they would pull together and they would work together for a common cause."
And the community came together once again on Saturday to support each other as they reflect on the tragedy in Point Pleasant.
"It's hard to recall back and then all the things that goes through your mind and everything that's happened between there," said Holland.
Both Bonecutter and Holland were part of the recovery process after the disaster.
And both had lost friends and neighbors in the tragedy.
"It was a hard thing to do, bringing those cars up, because a lot of the people I knew were in those cars," said Holland.
"They deserve to be remembered. Some of them were my neighbors. Some of them are buried behind the church that I pastor right today," sid Bonecutter, "It's a sad thing but we need to remember them."
