The name of the inmate who died at the Lawrence County Jail was released.
Steven J. Conley, 23, of Kitts Hill, Ohio, died on Saturday, according to a news release from the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department. Conley had complained of an illness that morning and was taken to St Mary's Medical Center in Ironton where he was pronounced dead, the release said.
The body was sent to Franklin County for an autopsy. Sheriff Jeff Lawless requested an independent investigation by the Buckeye State Sheriff's Association.
The Buckeye State Sheriff's Association is investigating the death of an inmate at the Lawrence County Jail.
Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless says an inmate became sick around 8am Saturday. He was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center in Ironton, where he later died.
Lawless will not release what illness the inmate was suffering from, and has not released his name.
Lawless says he doesn't suspect foul play, but the body has been sent to Franklin County for an autopsy.
