A man who was found guilty of trying to kill his wife by using a car bomb was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
Thomas Biederman, 51, of Russell, Ky., was found guilty of criminal intent to commit murder and second degree use of a weapon of mass destruction in November. On Friday, Biederman was sentenced to 20 years for each count, or 40 years, according to the Boyd County Circuit Court office.
In July 2011, Biederman's wife started a car in a parking garage in Ashland. The car exploded and she suffered cuts and burns.
A man accused of trying to kill his wife by using a car bomb was found guilty on Friday.
Thomas Biederman, 51, of Russell, Ky., was found guilty of attempted murder and use of a weapon of mass destruction, the Ashland Police Department said. Biederman appeared to have fainted during the reading of the verdict and had to be escorted by deputies, police said.
In July 2011, Janie Biederman's car exploded when she started it at the Sky Tower Garage on Bath Avenue in Ashland. She suffered from cuts and burns. Investigators found PVC pipe, a cap, some wires and gun powder at the scene.
Thomas Biederman could face 20 years on each charge to run 40 years consecutive. Final sentencing will be Dec. 7.
