The fiery explosion that rocked Sissonville when a gas pipeline exploded left its mark on the area and created images that area residents will not soon forget – a giant, smoldering crater where the pipeline exploded, towering flames that could be spotted from miles around and the charred remains of homes.
Eyewitness News was at the scene to capture many of these images, and viewers also submitted gripping photos that show the damage from Tuesday's harrowing incident.
We have assembled some of these images in a photo album that you can see on our Eyewitness News Facebook page. Just go to our Facebook page and click on the Eyewitness Insider tab and look for the photo album on the Sissonville explosion.
Some of the pictures you can see there include aerial shots, rescue personnel at the scene, huge flames shooting into the air, a charred vehicle, melted guardrail and damaged homes.
All of these images are just some of the memories from a day that area residents will not soon forget and drive home the realization that, despite the huge impact it had, this incident could have had even more tragic consequences.
