With musical presentations and recognition of Pearl Harbor survivors, a special tribute was held Friday in Charleston for "Our Forgotten Day of Remembrance."
The National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day was conducted at the Veterans Memorial at the intersection of Lee and Capitol streets. Various veterans organizations participated in the event, including The Pearl Harbor Survivors Association of West Virginia. City and state officials also attended.
Two Pearl Harbor survivors representing the 25 Pearl Harbor survivors remaining in West Virginia were on hand for the special ceremony.
A National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day ceremony, “Our Forgotten Day of Remembrance,” is scheduled Friday in Charleston.
The event is set for noon Friday at the Veterans Memorial at the intersection of Lee and Capitol streets, according to a news release from organizers of the event.
John Brawley Post No. 20, The American Legion, along with other veterans organizations, including The Pearl Harbor Survivors Association of West Virginia, and various state and local officials will be participating.
This year's ceremony will be highlighted with musical presentations by George Daugherty, the Earl of Elkview. Two Pearl Harbor survivors representing the approximately 25 Pearl Harbor survivors remaining in West Virginia will be among the honored guests. Public participation is encouraged.
