When you were a child, waiting for Christmas morning to arrive may have seemed like it took an eternity. The first glimpse of gifts under the tree was magical and was quickly followed by a rush to rip the wrapping paper and get to the toys inside.
You can help Eyewitness News with our “Tower of Toys” drive to make sure less fortunate children in our area are not left out of experiencing such joy. We are partnering with community organizations, businesses and residents to collect toys for Union Mission, so the agency can distribute toys throughout the area before Christmas to needy children.
Participating is simple. Just drop off a new unwrapped toy at the station’s studios in Charleston, 1301 Piedmont Road, or in Huntington, 1002 Fourth Ave. Donations also can be made at the Building and Remodeling Warehouse in Nitro. Other partners include Off Broadway Shoes and the Kanawha Valley Corvette Club.
Give a gift that really will make you feel good and bring joy to a child who does not have much to smile about. But you must act quickly; our toy drive wraps up Dec. 14.
Also, there is a chance to make a donation while doing something healthy. Runners and walkers participating in the first Winter Series Walks/Runs on Sunday, Dec. 9, in Charleston are being asked to donate a new unwrapped toy when they come to the events. All toys will go to the “Tower of Toys” project.
Registration for the 1 p.m. 3,000-meter walk (1.8 miles) and the 2 p.m. 5,000-meter run (3.1 miles) is at Charleston Area Medical Center Memorial Hospital. The walk and run start at 31st Street and Virginia Avenue. For more information or to obtain a registration form, visit http://tallmantrackclub.com/winter_series.htm.
So please come help us build a huge “Tower of Toys” that will put smiles on the faces of lots of really deserving kids this Christmas.
