Kanawha County residents have until Dec. 19 to file for individual federal individual assistance following property damage due to this summer's derecho storm.
To date, individual assistance in Kanawha County totals $476,192.22, according to a news release from Kanawha County Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
Officials said $459,837.65 went toward housing assistance, which is used to reimburse individuals for damages to their housing. The funds are distributed to individuals who applied for assistance and will be used to pay home repairs and rental assistance.
The remaining $16,654.57 is other needs assistance. These funds were awarded to individuals to pay for personal property damages such as appliances or furniture. These funds are also used to cover generator, medical supplies and fuel costs.

Applicants registering for aid should be prepared to provide basic information about themselves (name, permanent address and phone number), their insurance coverage and any other information to help substantiate losses.
