A West Portsmouth, Ohio, couple has been sentenced for operating a "pill mill" from their pain clinic.
Nancy Sadler, 49, and Lester Sadler, 56, was sentenced earlier this week. The couple pleaded guilty during their trials in May, according to a news release from Southern District of Ohio U.S Attorney Carter Stewart. The Sadlers sold painkillers out of their business, the Ohio Medical and Pain Managment clinic, in Waverly. They reportedly made nearly $900,000 a year at the clinic. Nancy Sadler was previously convicted of wire fraud in connection with a Kentucky pain clinic, the release said.
Nancy Sadler was sentenced to 17 1/2 years in prison on Tuesday. On Monday, Lester Sadler was sentenced to 12 1/2 years in prison and three years of supervised release. As part of their judgement, the couple must pay $1.8 million.
Other people in connection to the criminal activity stemming from the pain clinic have been sentenced for their role. On Wednesday, Brenda Banks, 59, of Columbus, who was a doctor at the clinic, was sentenced to four years in prison. Lisa Clevenger, 50, of Stoutsville is Nancy Sadler's sister and was sentenced to two years of home confinement and probation in November. Lester Sadler's father, James Sadler, 80, was sentenced to one day in prison with the credit of two years served in November.
