Children will be receiving a hot meal thanks to a new afterschool hot food service at The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club in Charleston.
Capt. Aaron Goldfarb, area commander of The Salvation Army, said the program would be offered Monday through Friday.
Monday marked the first day of the program with about 130 children expected to participate. Food was scheduled to be served from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club on Tennessee Avenue.
Goldfarb said food has been served to children before, but this is the first time there has been a hot meal program. “Our goal is to make sure that every child that we serve has a hot nutritious meal,” Goldfarb said in a news release.
