A two-story apartment building was heavily damaged when a blaze raced through the structure Monday morning on Charleston's West Side.
Residents in the building at 205 Buehring Avenue were able to get out safely, and no injuries were reported. A pit bull was rescued from the building and resuscitated at the scene. One dog was killed.
The cause of the blaze is considered suspicious. Firefighters say the blaze appeared to start in a second floor stairwell.
When firefighters arrived at the scene about 11:20 a.m., the structure was fully involved. At least eight people were in the building when the fire broke out, but they were able to get out of the complex safely. The building houses at least a half dozen apartments.
Buehring Avenue is located near Virginia and Randolph streets.
