Many of us are so blessed at Christmas that we receive a stack of presents when we celebrate the holidays.
But there are unfortunate children in our area who will not have toys that will bring laughter and smiles to their faces. Your generosity can help make their Christmas bright.
Once again, Eyewitness News is partnering with local businesses, community residents and organizations to collect a “Tower of Toys,” with new toy donations going to Union Mission to distribute throughout the area to children before Christmas.
The “Tower of Toys” drive starts Dec. 3 and wraps up Dec. 14. New toy donations can be dropped off at the station at 1301 Piedmont Road in Charleston. Donations also can be made at the Building and Remodeling Warehouse in Nitro and Best Home Medical in Hurricane or Barboursville. Other partners include Off Broadway Shoes, Nappa Auto and the Kanawha Valley Corvette Club.
Also, there is a chance to make a donation while doing something healthy. Runners and walkers participating in the first Winter Series Walks/Runs on Sunday, Dec. 9, in Charleston are being asked to donate a new, unwrapped toy when they come to the events. All toys will go to the “Tower of Toys” project.
Registration for the 1 p.m. 3,000-meter walk (1.8 miles) and the 2 p.m. 5,000-meter run (3.1 miles) is at Charleston Area Medical Center Memorial Hospital. The walk and run start at 31st Street and Virginia Avenue. For more information or to obtain a registration form, visit http://tallmantrackclub.com/winter_series.htm.
So please come help us build a huge “Tower of Toys” that will put smiles the faces of lots of really deserving kids this Christmas.
