A man who was severely burned in October in a blaze at his trailer is now facing child neglect charges stemming from the incident.
James Dailey, 35, was burned over 30 percent of his body after an incident in his trailer in Milton last month. Police were dispatched to his home after his girlfriend discovered Dailey on the floor of his bathroom with the top half of his body severely burned, according to court documents from the Cabell County Magistrate Court.
Dailey allegedly admitted to EMS workers that he was trying to melt the drug Fentanyl on a spoon and inadvertently set himself on fire, the documents said. Police said a young child was home at the time of the incident.
Dailey was charged Nov. 15 with three counts of child neglect with risk of injury and two counts of wanton endangerment. He was arraigned on the charges on Monday.
A man was in critical condition after police said he was badly burned over 30 percent of his body.
Milton police are investigating after James Dailey, 35, received third-degree burns about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in his trailer at a mobile home park on Damon Avenue.
Police believe the fire was in the bathroom, but there was little damage to the trailer. More details were unavailable. The incident is still under investigation.
