Police are continuing to piece together evidence in a murder that happened on Charleston's West Side the day before Thanksgiving. Police are now saying the motive for Clinton Green's murder is revenge.
Green's girlfriend called 911 just moments before he was killed saying she had been beaten up at a bar. But before police arrived at her house on Main Street, Green was shot numerous times in the middle of the street. It happened around 2 am Wednesday.
Police say Green's girlfriend is not a suspect in this killing, but their relationship may have been the motive. Investigators say their relationship resulted in numerous domestic violence charges against Green. Green was also a suspect in an arson which destroyed his girlfriend's home. The fire happened in March at her home on 1st Avenue. Police never charged Green with the arson but say he was a suspect.
The night of Green's murder police say the two got into a fight at the Bird House Lounge. Police say they have a strong lead and a suspect but need witnesses to come forward.
"We're just asking that anyone who may have been witness to the domestic situation to give usa call. That information may help us piece a few things together," Charleston Chief of Detectives, Lt. Steve Cooper, says.
