Ski resorts in West Virginia are preparing for what could be a promising year.
Snowshoe Mountain resort is opening on time for the season Wednesday. Cold temperatures at night have made for good conditions to make snow to add to the base brought in by Superstorm Sandy.
The ski business is responsible for generating up to $250 million annually for the state’s economy. Tourism and ski resort officials are hoping this season will be a recovery year after last year’s warm winter.
“It seems like the ski season is like farming,” Joe Stevens with the West Virginia Ski Association said. “We plant the seed, make the snow and hope Mother Nature cooperates.”
