A toy drive is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Kmart in Teays Valley.
The drive, called Bags of Blessings, is being organized by Bread of Life, a nonprofit agency that works with United Way to provide toys, clothing and food for children whose parents have missed the cutoff for Toys for Tots and Secret Santa, according to a news release from the organization.
Organizers said this year there are more than 300 children still in need. All families are screened against a master database with United Way to ensure they are both eligible as well as unduplicated (getting toys from more than one sponsor).
Each child has listed a toy item, clothing item and shoe size that they want. The program is looking for sponsors to “adopt” the children.
A sponsor who adopts a child buys new items, wraps them and puts them into a bag marked clearly with the child’s first name and associated number. The program asks that all bags be in no later than Dec. 5.
