To raise awareness about homelessness, a group is encouraging people to sleep overnight at Magic Island in Charleston at an event on Friday called, “One Night Without A Home.”
The Kanawha Valley Collective is sponsoring the program that begins at 6:30 p.m. and includes speakers and live music, according to a news release from the organizers. The formal program will conclude by midnight when folks will be encouraged to bed down for the night, though not all participants will sleep out.
Participants are asked to bring nonperishable food items such as peanut butter, dry pasta and sauce, cereal and canned food as donations for local pantries that serve the homeless and impoverished.
The Kanawha Valley Collective is a consortium of individuals and organizations working collaboratively to enrich the quality of life for individuals and families in the Kanawha Valley and surrounding areas.
