Former West Virginia Symphony Idol winner Ryan Hardiman rehearses with his co-star Lara Donohoe for this weekend's performances of "Cup of Cheer: A Holiday Cabaret." This is the third year Huntington's Curtains Up Players has staged the event. The group's president says it's a nice way to get people into the spirit of the season using talented local performers. "We have like, eight of the area's best performers," Shayne Gue, CUP President said. "You know their names if you've seen a show in Huntington or Charleston you've seen these people." Gue also praised his headliners who will perform several songs. "Yeah, you can't beat that," Gue said. "They (Hardiman and Donohoe) are the best people around. To have them on board and committed to our organization, not just for this show but throughout the whole year it's great for us. In addition to songs presented by Hardiman, Donohoe and others, the cast of the Jeslyn Performing Arts Center's production of "The Nutcracker" will perform selected scenes. Ten dollars buys a ticket, but a donation of an unwrapped toy for a boy or girl 18 and under also gets you a seat. Collected toys will be given to NECCO, which is an area foster care agency with locations in West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, and Georgia. NECCO will then distribute the gifts locally to children in the organization's care. "This is a really good cause," Hardiman said. "I had determined to take a little break but projects like this are great because you don't have to have constant rehearsal. You kind of work on your own and do your own thing and get together a few times and just have fun with your friends."
