Students from different high schools around the state of West Virginia got a closer look into the serious effects of online bullying.
Thursday at Capital High School in Charleston, students and parents saw national stories about kids who were seriously effected by people who were bullied through social networking like Facebook and Twitter. The program was designed to teach students how to use social networking in a positive light and not a negative one.
Eyewitness News talked with Alli Walker, a Parkersburg High student, who said the event made her want to make a difference. "I do see things like this online. And it made me think of a couple of people specifically they came to my head and I was like, I'd really like to reach out to these people because I don't want something like that because that effects a community," Walker said.
The program was also taught to hundreds of other high schools in north central West Virgina and the eastern panhandle.
