The city of Charleston has sworn in four new firefighter-paramedics Thursday.
The new firefighters are currently attending the Charleston Fire Department Training Academy and will be on the streets protecting the citizens of Charleston starting after the new year.
The four new additions to the department are Patrick Lively, William Martin, Bryan Payne and Thomas Robinson.
"I've wanted to be a firefighter all my life," Patrick Lively said. Lively's brother also works in the department.
As part of the hiring process, the candidates were required to be currently certified paramedics and have already completed an extensive paramedic training program.
