A Cabell County family is without a place to live, after fire destroyed their home over the weekend.
It happened along Martin Drive just off of Route 60 in Barboursville Sunday evening. An elderly woman and her son lived in that home.
Multiple fire crews reso, but it the end, it wasn't enough to save the structure.
Donald Hodge, the man who lived in that home with his mother, told Eyewitness News he believes the fire started when a gas can got too close to the pilot light of a water heater.
"I guess some of it spilled and the hot water tank ignited it, and boom it went up," Hodge said. "No one was hurt. I tried to put it out, but it was too late."
It took fire crews about an hour to get that fire under control.
