Heavy wind hampered efforts to get a massive brush fire under control in Clay County Monday.
The blaze destroyed up to 500 acres near Leatherwood and jumped a 60-foot wide fire break Monday.
Firefighters said witnesses saw someone set the fire over the weekend. Another large fire was burning further back in the woods.
Appalachian Power linemen said a deer that was electrocuted by a downed power line started a third fire that eventually burned itself out.
Firemen were hopeful Tuesday evening's rain would help get that fire under control.

Firefighters in Clay County continue to battle a massive brush fire, they believe was set intentionally over the weekend.
The fire started sometime Sunday in the Leatherwood area, Chief Michael Morton with the Lizemore Volunteer Fire Department said.
Fire crews battled the burning brush for hours Sunday, containing fire that threatened nearby homes. Eyewitness News has learned that residents in that area have not been told to leave as of yet.
Chief Morton tells Eyewitness News that crews were heading back out early Monday to try to get that fire under control.
