A lot of people came together in Charleston today to join in honoring our veterans.
Some, like Vicki Pauley who was there to see her grandsons, were proud family members.
"Tristen and Ryan, they're my grandsons. They're in Pack 152 Cub Scouts."
And then there were those who just wanted to show their apprciation.
"I want to support all of our troops and just thank them all for their sacrifices," said Sharon Bishop.
Hand shakes, nods of recognition, and applause were not in short supply at the parade today. That support Bishop expressed is something all veterans in attendance appreciate.
"Really really wonderful to see all the people come out to watch and to honor us," said Jack Robertson Sr.
For one veteran, he was able to take in the view from a different perspective this year.
"I've seen it so many times over the years. I was involved with the parade. This year I'm standing by just watching," said Dick Carvell.
Carvell is sitting this one out to really experience that feeling of appreciation.
"It's just that feeling of seeing everybody honoring our veterans and our country.Veterans stand for the freedom of our country."
Whether standing back to watch or walking to be part of the parade, Robertson shares a feeling many veterans feel this weekend.
"I've had a good career in the Marine Corp and served a great country, and it's just overwhelming."
