The photograph is mesmerizing. A little girl, wearing a veil, relaxes on the floor. Her chin rests in her hands as she stares into the distance. The title of the picture, “Alli’s Dreams,” sums ups her mood.
Debra Vickers of Charleston’s photograph also captured the imagination of Eva Longoria, who has selected it as one of her 10 photographs that will provide inspiration for a short film she plans to direct. Vickers’ picture was the winner in the “goal” theme of Canon's Project Imaginat10n contest, a user generated photo contest to inspire short films directed by Longoria; Jamie Foxx; Georgina Chapman (designer and co-founder of Marchesa); James Murphy (founder of LCD Soundsystem); and Biz Stone (co-founder of Twitter).
Each of the celebrity directors is being mentored by Ron Howard on the creative journey as they develop films inspired by 10 photos selected from a pool of 91 winners representing ten pillars in storytelling.
Longoria’s film will go into production in 2013, and Vickers will be invited to the Canon Project Imaginat10n Film Festival in 2013 to see the film on screen. The other four directors will be announcing their picks in coming weeks and could choose the same photos.
Here are Longoria’s other nine photo choices:
1. Michael Bilotta - "Self Portrait of Henry Jekyll" in Relationship
2. David Pavlina - "Cleansing" in Backstory
3. Reid Collins - "Hot Embers" in Obstacle
4. Sammie Saxon - "Lost In Blue" in Mood
5. Mike Marin - "The Long Walk" in Setting
6. Walter Arnold - "Patch Me Through" in Time
7. Mary Beth Koeth - "The Collector" in Character
8. Mike Beiriger - "Trouble Ahead" in The Unknown
9. David Saylor - "Discovery limits" in Discovery
