Two days after the election and three days before Veteran's Day, shoppers at Dollar General won't be finding flags there.
"I said do you really think that's good business three days before veteran's day? I don't think I'm going to be the only person looking for a flag," said a Dollar General customer.
She was buying a flag was shocked when she was turned away. She was getting that flag to place on the grave of her father, who was a veteran and prisoner of war.
"So I took one off the register, took it to the cash register, it rang up a penny which really floored the little guy who waited on me. And he went to ask someone and they came back and told me they cannot sell me the flag. That that meant that it was recalled. "
It's hard to believe that someone would not be allowed to buy an American flag.
Reporter Katy Brown visited the same Dollar General and tried her luck at buying a flag. But like the customer, she was told the American flags were recalled and was not able to buy one that was displayed by the register.
Managers at the Dollar General spoke off camera saying the recall was due to the fact that the flags were out of season. And when we called back for further information we were told they were no longer allowed to speak about the situation.
The flags will now be either donated or destroyed, depending on the store. As for the customer, she was able to find a flag for her father's grave site elsewhere.
