Putnam County residents have a chance to sign up for a free distribution of nonperishable food and household items.
Applications are being accepted until Nov. 16 at EnAct of Putnam County, 3680 Winfield Road, Suite 2, in Winfield, said Leighann Harmon, the agency’s Putnam County coordinator.
Each family approved for the Nov. 19 distribution at EnAct’s office will receive two boxes: one with nonperishable food such as pasta, cereal, canned food and peanut butter and one with household items such as laundry detergent, toilet paper and Clorox wipes.
Applicants must provide a Social Security number, dates of birth for all household members and a photo identification for the head of the household who would be picking up the food. There is no income eligibility requirement, but the applicants must be Putnam County residents.
The food is left over from a food distribution that took place in October when 200 families received items. Star Motorcycle Club raised money to obtain the food and supplies and Feed the Children helped obtain the items.
Harmon said the program had 115 slots for the upcoming distribution and 40 to 50 are filled so far. She stressed that the boxes will not have Thanksgiving-related items.
“These are not Thanksgiving baskets. There are no turkeys in there,” Harmon said. “Right now, we have boxes from the floor to the ceiling, and we want to distribute them to everybody in Putnam County who needs them.”
