West Virginia Secretary of State Natalie Tennant calls Tuesday’s election historic for many reasons.
Since 2010, the state has conducted seven statewide elections – that averages out to one election every 130 days.
In addition to the frequency of elections, Tennant said Superstorm Sandy presented even more challenges this time, but everyone stepped up and made the elections go smoothly.
“You look at those counties and since we had higher intensity were more prepared,” Tennant said. “Some of them had to move precincts; some were voting out of National Guard shelters. But because we were prepared, those storm counties had great elections.”
Tennant also was a winner, securing her second term by defeating Republican challenger Brian Savilla 62 percent to 38 percent.
