An inmate who escaped from the Beckley Correctional Center was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Catlettsburg, Ky., by a team of law enforcement officers led by U.S. marshals.
Joseph Cody Genet, 26, was located at his mother's residence and taken into custody by CUFFED Task Force members, according to a news release from the U.S. Marshals Service.
Genet was being held at the Beckley Correctional Center for a sentence of one to 15 years stemming from a burglary conviction out of Wayne County. He was able to temporarily elude apprehension Tuesday night in Ironton, Ohio, by fleeing a relative's residence on foot as officers arrived.
Following his arrest, he was turned over to Kentucky officials pending removal to West Virginia, where he may face additional charges relating to the escape, the release said.
Police are searching for an inmate who escaped from the Beckley Correctional Center.
Media outlets report that 26-year-old Joseph Cody Genet was discovered missing during an inmate count early Monday morning.
Genet was serving a one-to-15-year sentence at the minimum-security facility for burglary charges in Wayne County.
