Power crews have been busy in Cabell County. Hundreds of homes now have electricity after Superstorm Sandy rolled through our region and left many folks in the dark.
More than 3,000 people lost power in the storm over the past 24 hours, but AEP has been able to restore about half of them.
Nathaniel Collins lives on Lower Creek Road near Milton. He has invested in a generator after living in the dark this summer when the derecho knocked out power. "We were affected by that for five days. There were lots of people without power,” Collins said. “Living out this far in rural areas, often you'll find yourself without power. But this generator help holds you over."
Brad Kalinoski lives in Ona and didn't have power for 12 hours. He relies on the Internet for his business in Barboursville. Luckily, he has power at work where he adds visual effects for television shows and feature films. Since Superstorm Sandy hit New York, his workload has decreased. "The one company we work with is shut down all week in New York and that has a huge impact on the TV shows we're working on," Kalinoski said.
Nathaniel Collins is just glad to have an alternate source to help crank up the power. He might not have hot water, but at least he can keep the lights on for a while. "It's like camping in your home,” Collins said. “It sure does beat the expense of going to a hotel."
