A man was charged after police say he unsuspectingly burglarized a police officer's garage and vehicles.
John Kevin Blake, 32, of West Hamlin was charged Oct. 11 with destruction of property, joyriding, tampering with a vehicle, petit larceny and burglary, according to a complaint filed in Cabell County Magistrate Court.
Police said the suspect broke into a garage in Ona on Sept. 24. When the officer’s wife went to inspect, she noticed a door open and locked it. The next day, the husband, a St. Albans police officer, arrived home and noticed a man standing around his vehicles, the documents said. The officer jumped out of his cruiser to pursue the man. The officer said the suspect dropped a folder full of DVDs that was stored in one of the vehicles.
After the suspect was located during a traffic stop, the police officer identified the suspect and he was charged later in connection with the burglary.
Blake is being held at the Western Regional Jail on a $25,000 bond.
