A West Virginia man who authorities said falsely claimed to be a drive-by shooting victim was scheduled to be in a Montana courtroom on Monday.
Ray Dolin of Julian, W.Va., is charged with tampering with evidence, making a false report and obstructing a peace officer, The Associated Press reported.
Authorities said Dolin shot himself in the arm near Glasgow in Montana to gain publicity for a memoir about kindness in America.
A Washington state man was arrested in the shooting until Dolin allegedly confessed while being treated at a Veterans Affairs hospital, authorities said.
Dolin is expected to plead guilty before District Judge John McKeon in Valley County.
