“Mountain Stage” with Larry Groce has announced the first three live shows of its historic 30th season of live performance radio, including a show by West Virginia native Kathy Mattea.
The season will start Jan. 20 at the West Virginia University Creative Arts Center in Morgantown with Old 97’s front man and lead songwriter Rhett Miller along with Black Prairie, a Portland, Ore., progressive string band.
“Mountain Stage” returns to its birthplace at the West Virginia Culture Center Theater on the grounds of the state Capitol Jan. 27. Making its second appearance on the show will be Calexico, the critically acclaimed Southwestern band from Arizona led by the guitarist and singer Joey Burns.
On Feb. 3, the show welcomes “West Virginia’s Sweetheart” Kathy Mattea back to her home state in support of her recently released Sugar Hill album “Calling Me Home.” This will mark the Cross
Lanes native’s 15th appearance on the show since 1986. Joining the lineup with Mattea is Nashville based songwriter Kim Richey, whose work has been recorded by Trisha Yearwood, Lorrie Morgan and Patty Loveless. Also appearing will be Charleston, S.C., based alternative-country duo Shovels & Rope.
Tickets for the two Culture Center shows are $15 in advance and $25 at the door. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. For more information, please visit the live show schedule at http://www.MountainStage.org
