Local law enforcement agencies say they have been receiving reports that one or more individuals are falsely soliciting funds in the names of fraternal police lodges in Fayette and Raleigh counties.
The callers are telling residents and businesses that the money being raised will benefit the Shop-With-A-Cop programs for Fayette and Raleigh counties, according to a news release from the Fraternal Order of Police Fayette County Memorial Lodge #18.
The release said the callers are falsely claiming they are raising the money on behalf of Fayette County Memorial Lodge #118 of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Black Diamond Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police in Raleigh County.
The lodge in Raleigh County is soliciting funds over the telephone, but this fundraising effort is not for the Shop-With-A-Cop program and is not connected with the Fayette County’s annual Shop-With-A-Cop fundraiser. The Fayette County lodge does not use telephone solicitation for this fundraiser.
Anyone who receives a call of this nature is asked to report it to their local law enforcement agency.
