A woman in Floyd County, Kentucky, was charged with animal cruelty after police said they discovered nine dead dogs on her property and several malnourished dogs and cats.
Vanessa Howard, 45, of Prestonsburg was charged with 30 counts of cruelty to animals on Thursday. Police discovered several malnourished dogs and cats at two separate locations, according to documents from Floyd County District Court. Police said they found a garbage bag with seven dead dogs on the porch and located two dead dogs inside her home on Abbot Creek. Also, there were 12 malnourished dogs located inside, police said. At a second location on North Front Avenue, there were nine cats living in feces that were blocked in a small area, police said.
The Associated Press reported that the animals that were rescued were taken to the Floyd County Animal Shelter. Officials said that Howard has more property in other counties that will be checked, The AP reported.
