Boone County sheriff’s deputies are looking for information to help them find the suspects who threw a puppy from a pickup truck into the roadway.
Two deputies were in a line of traffic about 3 p.m. Oct. 12, traveling north on state Route 94 near Lens Creek Mountain, when they saw people in a truck throw a 10- to 12-week-old puppy out of the passenger side window, the sheriff’s office said.
The deputies stopped to retrieve the puppy, which landed on the pavement. Deputies said the animal was trying to stand and was bleeding out of its nose and mouth. They were tending to its injuries while the truck drove on, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies took the puppy to an animal emergency room in South Charleston that agreed to treat the dog for free.
The vehicle involved in the incident was described as an older model Dodge or Ford single-cab pickup truck that has a distinct yellow paint job and was carrying a load of junk in the back.
The sheriff’s office said area residents say the truck travels the area frequently, and dogs have been thrown out of the vehicle previously. Anyone with information about the possible owner of such a truck is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 304-369-7346.
