Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin gave special thanks to members of the West Virginia Army and Air National Guard on Sunday.
Tomblin first met with all of the members of the Guard who played a large role in the cleanup from this summer's massive storm. He thanked them for their hard work that went into helping the thousands of people affected throughout 53 counties.
Tomblin also welcomed back members from the National Guard who recently returned home from deployments in Afghanistan and Kuwait.
"It does mean a lot to us. We don't do this for things from our higher ups, but it's still nice to be recognized. Something to remember are the people who stay behind and keep the home fires burning while we're out doing that. They are the ones who have the really tough job in my opinion," Lt. Col. Russell Perry of the Air National Guard said.
Every troop who returned from deployment spent more than 120 days overseas.
