Charleston Police Department Chief Brent Webster said Friday that police are investigating the disappearance of about $750 in cash from a petty cash fund used by officers for out-of-town trips and other expenses.
The department learned the cash was missing last month when an officer needed to take some money out of the fund, the chief said. Webster said the department does not know if the money is lost, misplaced or if someone took the funds.
Webster said two civilian employees who were in charge of the petty cash fund resigned last week.
Meanwhile, the chief said he is consulting with prosecutors, but he does not know whether any criminal charges would be filed.
