A man has been charged with malicious wounding in connection with a shooting Thursday in West Dunbar. Franklin Beverly, 31, of West Dunbar was arrested by the Kanawha Bureau of Investigation in the shooting of Joe Green, also of West Dunbar, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office. The release said Beverly told investigators he shot Green because Green allegedly smacked Beverly's girlfriend, who was pregnant with Beverly's child, in the stomach area about one week ago. Beverly walked into an apartment on Smoot Avenue in West Dunbar about noon Thursday and confronted Green before shooting him multiple times with a handgun, according to investigators. Green was transported to CAMC General and is in serious condition. Beverly was arraigned Thursday afternoon in Kanawha Magistrate Court, where a cash bond of $100,000 was set. If convicted of the charge, he could face up to five years in jail and up to a $500 fine. The search is on for the suspect in a shooting that happened about noon Thursday in the West Dunbar area of Kanawha County. Kanawha County sheriff’s deputies said witnesses told them they heard about seven shots. Dispatchers said the shooting was reported in the 100 block of Smoot Avenue. Kanawha County deputies, Dunbar police and West Virginia state troopers ware on the scene. Eyewitness News was told they are looking for a black male with dreadlocks, who was believed to be wearing a blue hooded-sweatshirt. The suspect took off on foot. Deputies said the victim received serious injuries. If you have any information, call 911. Several nearby schools and day-cares were put on lockdown as a precaution.
