Kanawha County commissioners are raising awareness about breast cancer.
In light of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, commissioners hung a wreath Wednesday with pink ribbon outside the county courthouse to represent breast cancer awareness.
Breast cancer survivor and former county employee, Peggy Poe, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1995, and since then the county has been diligent in promoting awareness.
"Since that time, many women have found through early detection those problems and have been able to correct them before things got worse," Kanawha Circuit Clerk Cathy Gatson said.
Commissioners provide free mammograms and prostate exams to full-time county employees every year in January.
