Legislative leaders are looking at a number of money-handling problems at West Virginia State University.
An audit found the school was short more than $260,000. Improper campus bookstore credit practices, parking fine overcharges and some missing funds are some of the 16 issues raised in an audit Tuesday.
The report also says 103 students were allowed to remain enrolled in 2009 after failing to pay tuition. Fourteen of those students also lived in the residence halls and used meal cards without paying for them.
The university’s news president, Brian Hemphill, told lawmakers Tuesday he is taking the findings very seriously.
