TROUBLE ON TURNPIKE Two Trucks Wreck After Semi Loses Tires

Two truck drivers who wrecked on the West Virginia Turnpike early Wednesday morning say a dual wheel and tire combination that fell off another big rig caused the accident that sent one tractor-trailer plunging 75 feet over a steep hillside.
Randy Tignor's truck went so far over the hillside the bulldozers will be needed to get it out. Somehow, the Elkview man escaped serious injury. It was still dark when his truck went through the guardrail south of the Sharon exit.
Another big rig was damaged when it ran over a dual tire and wheel combo that apparently fell off a truck that never stopped. The first truck damaged was able to stop, but Tignor lost control of his vehicle.
"What was it like going down through there?" Eyewitness News reporter Bob Aaron asked. "It was scary," said Tignor, an Elkview resident.
"Another semi-truck lost it and they didn't even stop to remove it from the road and it was dark. Black tires – you couldn't see them," said Den Jovnovski, a trucker from Illinois.
State troopers and the Public Service Commission are investigating the accident. Turnpike workers say bulldozers will have to cut a path from a dirt road off Cabin Creek to remove the truck and flatbed trailer that went over the hill. The other rig drove off with minor damage.
