The four railroad crossings closed after a train derailment in the Dawes area of Cabin Creek reopened Tuesday afternoon, a Metro 911 dispatcher said.
The crossings reopened about 4:30 p.m., The Associated Press reported.
About a dozen cars derailed in the incident that occurred Tuesday morning. The four crossings blocked were Dawes Hollow, Miami Hill, Sharon Hill and Joliet Road.
Kanawha County school students living in Cabin Creek will be taken to Sharon Dawes Elementary School Tuesday afternoon and will stay there until parents pick them up due to a train derailment.
About a dozen cars derailed earlier Tuesday and blocked four crossings. Metro 911 reported the crossings would be blocked for several hours.
About a dozen railroad cars derailed in the Dawes area of Cabin Creek Tuesday morning, blocking four crossings, an emergency dispatcher said.
The dispatcher said the wheels of the cars popped off the tracks, and the railroad cars did not overturn when the incident happened about 9:15 a.m. The four crossings blocked are Dawes Hollow, Miami Hill, Sharon Hill and Joliet Road. The address where the accident occurred is 162 Joilet Road.
A couple hundred residents are affected by the blocked crossings. The train was carrying coal. One ambulance trying to get to a residence was unable to cross the tracks. CSX crews are at the scene and were going to attempt to split the cars to clear the crossings.
