A woman accused of killing her stepdaughter will now face life in prison.
Ashley Young, 26, of The Plains, Ohio, will serve life in prison with the chance for parole in 20 years, according to a news release from Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn,.
On Oct. 2, Young entered an Alford Plea, which means she claims she did not commit the crime, but the state has sufficient evidence to convince a jury of her guilt.
Young was convicted of killing her 4 year-old stepdaughter by beating her. After the child's death, Young tried to buy pills from a local drug dealer, the release said.
An Athens County woman pleaded guilty to killing her 4 year-old stepdaughter and could face life in prison.
In May of 2011, Ashley Young, 26, choked and slammed Kalyen Young's head on the floor, investigators said. A prosecutor said that Ashley Young tried to buy illegal drugs on the way to the hospital after the young girl had been transported for treatment.
Prosecutors agreed to recommend a life sentence in prison without a possibility of parole for 20 year's for Young's guilt plea to charges including aggravated murder, according to the Athens Messenger. The plea would allow the family to avoid going through the trial, according to the Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn.
